Is there any sign of true love in this world? What is love? The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a book about two lovers separated due to the atonement of money. So, due to envy and lack of love in the world, a character's death was real. The lack of love shown in all the characters has evidently led to their deaths. A world without love has no "happily ever after" ending. In the novel “The Great Gatsby,” numerous examples in the novel portray a loveless world in which Jay Gatsby lived. Gatsby was rejected again and again with Daisy Buchann. The love between them was broken due to Gatsby's lack of money. Furthermore, from then on Gatsby wished to be with Daisy until he was killed, protecting her. Gatsby was so touched by Daisy to the point that he would go to the moon to know that she loves him. In chapter 6, when Gatsby and Tom argued, he wanted Daisy herself to tell Tom that she never loved him, but she wouldn't, thus destroying Gatsby's heart. Gatsby told himself that Daisy loved him, just to warm his heart. Gatsby speaks to Tom: “He never loved you, do you understand? She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake, but in his heart he never loved anyone but me!” (Fitzgerald, 130). Gatsby was treated in a way where love was unexplored, blocked by money and the lust of others. Even Nick, in his part of the novel, has never laid eyes on the happy ending. Throughout this book Jordan's memory of Nick fades into darkness and he forgets the feelings Jordan has with him. In chapter 3 Jordan tells Nick that she actually likes him, and he tells the reader that he's not actually in love with Jo... middle of paper... very created. The happy ending after the ending may not have been shown in this novel, but Daisy and Tom show a hope of love as magnificent as a grain of sand in all the loveless pieces that Gatsby and Nick volunteer for. In a world without love, the happy ending does not show itself completely, but sometimes it can show a look, a figure, a hole, which portrays love. In this large and abundant novel there are signs of love that are represented through Daisy, Nick and Gatsby. These overwhelming signs, in fact, show us the loveless world in which these characters lived. This loveless world that these characters have created, this ending without “happily ever after” that they have created, was created by themselves because of their choices, physical and mental.
